Flyer for Carol Swain book

Invasion of the Mind Sappers was published by Fantagraphics Books in 1996, and was I think Carol Swain’s first book for them. I reviewed it for the Comics Journal. This is evidently a promotional flyer produced by a PR agency in London, judging by the old phone number.

Chris Reynolds and Mauretania

I received a copy of this new Chris Reynolds hardback book at the beginning of June this year. It’s from the French publisher Editions Tanibis. Chris’s stories from the 1980s and 1990s have been translated into French, and the presentation is immaculate; looks gorgeous, doesn’t fall into graphic novel design cliche, and has a suitably…

Dilworth Does Drake

The UK cartoonist Ben Dilworth sent me the artwork for these two pages in 1985. I see from the letter he was living in Clacton, Essex at the time, although I seem to recall he was associated with small press artists in Bristol. As it happens, Ben’s story is his continuation of the ‘Unnatural Disasters’…

The End of Dead Duck

Here are two drawings by me of the Savage Pencil character, Dead Duck, dated 1995. I collaborated with Savage Pencil on two serial stories published by the English comics magazine, Deadline, under the editorship of Frank Wynne at the time. I did the writing on the stories, and later on provided Sav X with rough…

Ioren and Marja

Here you can download a PDF of Ioren and Marja (1985). Download Ioren and Marja PDF (4 MB) A strange and sad story. The look of it was directly influenced by a Lorenzo Mattotti story shown to me that year by Paul Gravett; the story was in Italian and I couldn’t understand it, but I…

New! Drake in The Reign of Numbers

The latest comic book by small press comics artist Ed Pinsent is a 56-page story featuring the detective Drake Ullingsworth and his Dog. The story is a continuation of the shocking events chronicled in Drake Goes Into The Underworld, a story published in 2017. Following the death of King Shop, the city finds itself facing…

Drake 2019 – work in progress

Here are two scans from a new Drake Ullingsworth story which is underway. I’m trying out this blue non-photo pencil which is new to me. It’s supposed not to show up in the scanner / photocopier. Not completely perfect I’m finding, but a little bit of tweaking in the GIMP seems to help.

New comic: Ramollo vs Illegal Batman

New for May 2019. This collection reprints all five Ramollo stories to date, showing in painful detail the decline and misfortunes of this luckless fellow. Starting out in life as a lowly bank clerk, Ramollo starts off embezzling funds via his computer. This first act of crime is enough to put him on Illegal Batman’s…
