Drake and Fantômas

Here’s the original art for one page from “Drake and His Dog Meet Fantômas”, an unpublished Drake Ullingsworth story from around 1997. Fantômas is a fictional character who has long preoccupied me. It started with my love of Rene Magritte; like many other Surrealist painters, he was captivated by the character and at least two…

Drake in Fox Comics

The editors of Fox Comics printed quite a few of my Drake Ullingsworth stories in the 1980s. Here are some selected pages, as printed, from the stories “Drake and His Dog Meet The Mariner Man” and “New Savagery In Jaystown”. They were serialised to some extent, long stories broken up into chapters. Later, I submitted…

Dilworth Does Drake

The UK cartoonist Ben Dilworth sent me the artwork for these two pages in 1985. I see from the letter he was living in Clacton, Essex at the time, although I seem to recall he was associated with small press artists in Bristol. As it happens, Ben’s story is his continuation of the ‘Unnatural Disasters’…

Drake and the Concrete Collapse

Here you may download the complete story of Drake Ullingsworth and the Concrete Collapse, originally published in 2010. All around him the city is apparently crumbling away; buildings falling down, homeless people roaming the streets and turning hostile, while his own Dog alternatively reprimands him or ignores him in a drug-addled haze. Drake the detective…

New! Drake in The Reign of Numbers

The latest comic book by small press comics artist Ed Pinsent is a 56-page story featuring the detective Drake Ullingsworth and his Dog. The story is a continuation of the shocking events chronicled in Drake Goes Into The Underworld, a story published in 2017. Following the death of King Shop, the city finds itself facing…

Here are two scans from a new Drake Ullingsworth story which is underway. I’m trying out this blue non-photo pencil which is new to me. It’s supposed not to show up in the scanner / photocopier. Not completely perfect I’m finding, but a little bit of tweaking in the GIMP seems to help.

Drake and The Red Detective

Added today, a six-pager from late 1985-early 1986 featuring Drake Ullingsworth and His Dog in a surreal drama. Scanned direct from the original artwork, which was drawn in full colour using various permanent markers, crayons, and black ink. The story has been unpublished until now.
